“Wenger lost his 1,000th game 6-0, so I’m happy”, quips Klopp

Jürgen Klopp trained for the 1,000th time in his career this Saturday in the clash against Chelsea (0-0). Asked about it, he took the opportunity to chamber Arsène Wenger, who had lost 6-0 against the Blues the day he had reached this total.

Jürgen Klopp enters a closed circle. The Reds coach has just played his 1,000th career game on a bench, when receiving Chelsea this Saturday (0-0). A draw result that leaves Liverpool in the soft underbelly of the Premier League (8th), out of reach of the top 4. However, the German coach wanted to remain positive, with humor.

“First and foremost, before the match, I received a lot of messages and not all of them were nice, he underlines in a post-match press conference, before tackling his French counterpart. I think Arsene Wenger lost his 1,000th game 6-0, so I’m really happy that didn’t happen.” Also opposed to Chelsea, Arsenal had actually been corrected in the derby on March 22, 2014 on the occasion of Wenger’s 1,000th game on a bench.

“Since the last league game there has been progress”

“We had moments when we played pretty well, adds Klopp about the shock of the day. For me it’s clear, you have to be ready to take small steps and it was a small step. I expect progress and since the last league game there has been progress. That’s important.”

Jürgen Klopp’s 1,001st game is scheduled for next weekend at Brighton in the FA Cup, to breathe some fresh air after a tricky first half of the league.
