The Elder Scrolls 6, a large-scale game? Not for Microsoft

Game News The Elder Scrolls 6, a large-scale game? Not for Microsoft

The Elder Scrolls VI is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games, although we don’t know much about it. While waiting for a concrete reveal, Microsoft estimates that it will be a “medium-sized” game.

Some time ago, Microsoft bought Bethesda for a hell of a lot of money, recovering prestigious franchises like Fallout, Doom or The Elder Scrolls in the process. The sixth installment is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated projects, but alas, we don’t know much about it: only a meager video teaser was unveiled during E3 2018… but no more. And besides, there are still several years of development to be expected.

While waiting for a real spotlight – Starfield will have to be released first! – it is Microsoft who delivers a detail that is very important: in its file supposed to convince the British competition authority to validate the takeover of Activision-Blizzard, the firm admits that The Elder Scrolls VI could well be a Microsoft exclusive… since it will be a game “of size mean”. And that, therefore, it should not interfere too much with its rivals, Sony at the top of the list.

The battle rages on

Once again, this mention comes within the framework of the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard. Before it is validated, Microsoft must have the green light from the various governments, which must be certain that the takeover will not work against the market and existing players.

The Redmond firm is therefore at odds with Sony (which is doing everything to ensure that the merger does not take place, unsurprisingly): it recently admitted that the PlayStation exclusives were better than the its own, that Sony was the market leader and, therefore, that The Elder Scrolls VI will only be a “medium-sized” game, so there’s nothing to worry about if it’s an exclusive.

Do you think The Elder Scrolls VI will truly be a mid-range title? Or that Microsoft does not hesitate to come up with various arguments to seduce the various regulatory authorities at all costs?
