During the reception of Cadiz (1-0), the coach of Sevilla FC Jorge Sampaoli was excluded at the hour mark for protest. His sporting director had already shown nervousness in the first period. Sevilla FC finally got away with a penalty from Rakitic in the 89th minute and left the relegation zone.
Jorge Sampaoli does not lose his bad habits. Accustomed to grumbling and collecting cards on the bench of OM for more than a season, the Argentine coach has again unpinned on the bench of Sevilla FC. During the meeting against Cadiz, in the fight for maintenance, the coach was excluded at the hour mark this Saturday evening, after protest and two yellow cards received in quick succession.
Monchi enrages, Rakitic frees Sevilla
In the first 17 games he has managed in Sevilla since his return last October, Sampaoli had already received four yellow cards as well as a red card against Linares on January 4.
He is not the only one of his team to have lost his nerves this Saturday: Monchi, the club’s sporting director, had expressed his anger at the break after a goal disallowed at Lamela in added time, notably kicking in a bottle.
By dint of pushing, the Blanquirrojos ended up giving up Cadiz, on a penalty converted by Rakitic at the very end of the match (89th). A short but very precious victory: they jumped to 14th place, with a head start on the first relegation.
On Wednesday, Sevilla FC will have the opportunity to follow up with a Copa del Rey quarter-final against Osasuna. Jorge Sampaoli will be on the bench for this meeting, but he cannot be for the next meeting in the league, January 28 against Elche.
