Ford Motor announced on Thursday the recall of 634,000 SUVs worldwide due to a risk of fire in the engine block and advised owners to have their vehicles inspected.
This new recall affects some 520,000 vehicles in the United States and approximately 114,000 in other countries.
The second-largest US automaker said the recall affects 2020-2023 Bronco Sport and Escape models with 1.5-litre three-cylinder engines, many of which were already recalled in April for the same issue.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the US federal agency responsible for road safety, said that vehicles repaired during the previous recall were also affected by this new measure.
Once the repairs are completed, the manufacturer will update the software of the vehicles concerned so that it can detect any anomaly in the injection system.
“If a pressure drop in the fuel rail is detected, engine power will automatically be reduced to minimize any risk, while allowing customers to drive to a safe location, stop the vehicle and take arrangements to repair it”Ford said.
The manufacturer declares to have been informed of 54 incidents related to the fire problem.
