Up to 90 mm of rain in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques
Since Monday morning, sometimes intense rains have affected the Southwest. According to Météo-France, they should intensify further during the afternoon, taking on a stormy character in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. After a very slight lull at the end of the day, the showers are gaining in intensity again at the start of the night from Monday to Tuesday. By Tuesday noon, it could fall between 60 and 80 mm of rain, or even locally 90 mm, Météo-France alert in its vigilance bulletin. The rain-snow limit should be around 1,200 meters in the Pyrenees.
In the afternoon, the westerly wind will strengthen on the Atlantic coast and the coasts of the Channel, reaching 90 km / h in gusts, even 100 to 110 km / h on the exposed capes. It will strengthen a little more in the evening with a risk of locally strong thunderstorms, accompanied by hail, according to Keraunos.
At sea, the maritime prefecture warns against winds of force 7 to 8 on the tip of La Hague, in the Channel, and the Atlantic coast. Météo-France also warns of a fairly strong swell expected during the night which could limit the flow of water towards the ocean near the Basque coast.
Caution also in Corsica, where a start of bad weather is expected at the end of the day, Keraunos alert. Occasionally heavy and stormy rains can produce layers of water greater than 70 mm in a short time.
The situation will not be much better on Tuesday with still very turbulent weather in the Southwest, predicts La Chaîne Météo. However, from the beginning of the afternoon of Tuesday, the showers will become increasingly rare in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and gradually lose intensity.
Corsica should again be affected by locally violent storms. Gusts of up to 150 km / h should affect the island of Beauty.
