Devolver Digital: 4 original games not to be missed at Summer Game Fest 2022

Game News Devolver Digital: 4 original games not to be missed at Summer Game Fest 2022

It is now an appointment eagerly awaited by fans of “indie” style games and totally meta and crazy conferences. Devolver attacks the video game industry with acid and punctuates its projections with trailers and announcements with a tone that belongs only to this authentically “punk” publisher. Here are the four games that should not be missed during this Devolver Digital 2022 edition.

  • Cult of the Lamb
  • Anger Football
  • The Plucky Squire
  • skate story

Cult of the Lamb

Announced at gamescom 2021, Cult of the Lamb kicks off hostilities at Devolver’s summer conference with a new trailer that details its context and the playful possibilities offered to players. This title developed by Massive Monster (Never Give Up, Adventure Pals) invites you to create your own cult and merges genres… between action, adventure and management. With its artistic direction reminiscent of the animated series Happy Tree Friends and its somewhat sectarian, but still hilarious tone, Cult of The Lamb could catch the eye of fans of Harvest Moon… violence and more… and The Binding of Isaac… plus gardening. This game published by Devolver Digital will be released on August 11, 2022 on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.

The video game singularity opened by Devolver continues with Anger Football developed by Free Lives (BroForce, Genital Jousting, Gorn). In this ultra-fast first-person shooter, you play as a “cleaner” ready for anything, especially breaking down doors and slaying a whole host of anthropomorphic enemies, so that the city of Shit City, described as a boil by the developers, finds all its superb. This FPS (for First person Shooter) is lived at a frantic pace on electronic music that beats the eardrums as vigorously as the feet of the “hero” with the doors. From sewers to shabby slums via skyscrapers, the levels are crossed under a heavy fire that smells of gunpowder with the not-so-subtle art of the “kick” as its tempo. Anger Foot will be released on PC in 2023.

The Plucky Squire

The next title that interests us is one of our favorites of this Devolver Digital version 2022. Between two harsh criticisms aimed at the industry, the publisher revealed to a captivated audience The Plucky Squire. This game developed by All Possible Futures studios brings to life the character of Jot and his friends, all from a children’s story, and who discover a three-dimensional world outside the pages of their book. Seeking to save their friends from the clutches of the proclaimed villain Humgrump, they will have to cross 2D and 3D worlds born of the various objects and toys present in a room… in this case Sam’s… and inspired by cult video games from the 80s and 90 (The Legend of Zelda, Super Punch-Out!!, Micro Machines, etc). The Plucky Squire releases on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch in 2023.

skate story

This Devolver Digital ends with a sound and light show worthy of the so-called “Arty” movements. skate story, developed by Sam Eng, is as its name suggests a skateboard game with one difference. The athletes and by extension the players are here glass demons evolving in the Underground and having for final objective to reach the Moon and to swallow it. Using kickflips, grinds and other ollies, they destroy the other demons that stand in their way in the heart of artistically directed levels that are both futuristic and mystical. The soundtrack, as dreamlike as the visuals, is the work of Blood Cultures, an American experimental pop band from New Jersey. Skate Story is coming to PC in 2023.

About the Summer Game Fest

What is Summer Game Fest?

No E3 this year, but we can still count on another world-class event: the Summer Game Fest, a big show dedicated to announcements of video games to come this year or the following years. It was in 2020 that journalist and host Geoff Keighley launched this now unmissable festival for the first time. Last year, the show featured stunning images from Elden Ring; so inevitably, the third iteration raises high expectations.

When does Summer Game Fest 2022 start?

The Summer Game Fest is this Thursday, June 9 at 8 p.m. The show will once again be followed by a Day of the Devs session devoted to the independent scene.

How to follow the Summer Game Fest 2022?

On JV, we will react live to announcements from the LeStream channel alongside Maxildan and Aymeric Lallée in particular. The show will also be directly visible as a teaser on JV’s homepage. And for those who prefer reading, you will of course find our news throughout the conference. A written summary will also be available

What is the program for Summer Game Fest 2022?

Among the games not to miss, there is in particular the heir to Dead Space, The Callisto Protocol, which shows us its first gameplay images. For its part Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 presents us with its first level. Also on the program: Gotham Knights, Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, the first game from Aaryn Flynn’s studio (ex-Bioware) Nightingale, the JRPG One Piece Odyssey, the free-to-play Warframe or even Planet of Lana. Geoff Keighley further announced: “We have a few new game announcements for this show and hopefully a few surprises if all goes well. But it’s definitely a show that mostly focuses on things that are foretold.”
