Phantom Liberty, the most ambitious DLC in the history of CD Projekt? This would be the case, if we are to believe the latest statements from the studio. After the revival of Cyberpunk 2077 last year, the Polish team would be ready to impress us with the unique expansion of its game.

Summary

  • CDPR’s most ambitious DLC
  • A project on the right track

CDPR’s most ambitious DLC

Still in development, the extension Phantom Liberty of Cyberpunk 2077 is still very mysterious. The DLC is indeed planned for the current year, but CD Projekt remains evasive about the details of the unique extension of CP77. For the moment, we only know that Phantom Liberty should enrich the story of V alongside Johnny Silverhand and that the brilliant actor Idris Elba has joined the cast of this project.

However, in terms of content, it’s still pretty vague. Quests, lifetime, arsenal and skills…for the moment, CD Projekt reveals nothing, or almost. Marek Bugdol, representative of the studio, allowed himself to reveal some information to the Polish media Parkiet. According to him, Phantom Liberty would be “the largest expansion in CD Projekt’s history in terms of budget”. The renewed interest of players for Cyberpunk 2077 last year would have made the studio grow wings, which would carry there an even more ambitious project than the expansions of The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

A project on the right track

Obviously, the question of the budget remaining a rather general notion, remains to be seen how this will translate in terms of scale for Phantom Liberty. It’s hard to believe, for example, that this DLC will have a longer lifespan than the base game, whose main campaign can end between 3 and 8 p.m. But it is on the other hand particularly gratifying to note that CDPR is not afraid after the setbacks of his game and that the studio intends to offer him the DLC he deserves.

If Marek Bugdol avoids revealing more details, the studio’s representative nevertheless wishes to reassure investors and the public by stating that the teams are “comfortable with the current state of work on the DLC”. CDPR also hopes that players who have traveled Night City will return for Phantom Liberty and that this extension will be able to attract novices who have not yet got their hands on the software. The studio would also like to offer a GOTY version of Cyberpunk 2077 including the base game and its extension at the time of its release. A good way to discover the RPG in its entirety.
