It is one of the most popular video game sequels and each new installment is eagerly awaited by the community. This is why the piracy of images of Grand Theft Auto 6, currently in development, has fans of the franchise talking a lot. It was a hacker who claimed Sunday, September 18 the unauthorized dissemination of exclusive images of the new GTA sequel. According to the specialized site PCGamer, it is a “of the biggest leaks in video game history”.

The previous game, GTA 5, was released in 2013 and was a huge success with more than 160 million copies sold. She GTA 6 sequel has been in development for several years. At the start of 2022, the publisher had confirmed that it was actively working on the title, but no release date has been communicated.

It was a user of the GTAForums forum who claimed responsibility for this hack: “Teapotuberhacker”, the virtual name of this Internet user, posted 90 videos which all come from GTA 6 according to him. The screenshots and clips were posted on several social networks including YouTube or Twitter. The images show characters from the future game and action scenes in the city of Vice City.

The hacker explained that he hacked these images by obtaining Slack access (an online messaging service) from an employee of Rockstar, the video game publisher. Another interesting element reported by PCGamer, the videos revealed are from the game’s test phases and may not be present in the final version of GTA 6.

In the aftermath of these leaks, publisher and developer Rockstar did not confirm the authenticity of the images. But several media claim that the images revealed seem to have come out of the development of GTA 6. “I have had confirmation from sources within Rockstar that the massive GTA 6 leaks this weekend are real.”says Jason Schreier, a journalist for the American media Bloomberg, on his Twitter account.

For the TechCrunch website, “it appears that the images appear genuine or if they are fake these were created with a high degree of precision for detail”.
